Currently, Curtis is working to finish his art degree in digital media art by the end of the spring 2024 school semester, and from there plans to seek out further practice through the college's master's program but also plans to start working on large-scale art projects outside of class to help bolster his art portfolio and get into the career he desires and start working on the art he's always dreamed of.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Throughout my childhood up to even today, I enjoyed spending my time mostly playing all kinds of video games. I don’t really have any personal favorite game or genre I just play what’s good and popular. While I’ve been gaming, I began taking an interest in the work put into making these video games and I especially became interested in the art and models that make up these games. As I’ve been exploring the wonderful art that makes up these games, I really felt like this was something I wanted to do as a career, so I began seeking out a major that best set me on the path which is how I ended up choosing Digital Media Arts for my major
One of the parts about the Digital Media Arts program that I find most interesting is the amount of different art forms practiced throughout the different courses from 3D modeling to video editing, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator. The amount of variety present in this major is very impressive and I have found great use in all of them while 3D modeling may be my focus the skills I have gained through these other courses have really elevated my craft in many subtle and noticeable ways.
Throughout my free time, I practice my art skills in 3D software such as Blender to better prepare myself for my potential future career. Additionally, I also spend some time working in a group as part of the SJSU GameDev club where I get to apply my skills in a team environment working together to create a video game from scratch. Currently, the GameDev team I’m a part of is working on a 2D-3D hybrid RPG game that I’ve been helping them as a 3D artist to help create backgrounds and world spaces for them to place their 2D characters on.
