Blog Post 1: Internet Arcade
Taking a look at the Internet Arcade for something to write about in this blog post I knew I wanted to play something iconic and recognizable to many so I decided upon the fighting game Mortal Kombat 3 for my experience.
Having played several fights across multiple characters I got a rough idea of the game's feel as well as a really good idea of the games age. It's defiantly got its appeal that would have made it addicting to play back in the 90s with its large roster of fighters, deep gameplay and brutal fatalities. But, despite that the controls haven't age all that well with stiff character movements and wonky controls. Additionally, since I don't have a partner to be player 2 I had to settle competing with the old school AI who vary from being absolute idiots to total masters seemingly at the flip of a switch. Another interesting facet about my experience was that I was playing on an emulator instead of the actual arcade cabinet which was clearly present in me having to use the keyboard instead of the standard button layout in an arcade. That really impacted my experience as the keyboard button layout is not that comfortable and made the experience much less comfortable.
